The dreaded losing toss sentenced Cromer to bowling first on a good track, and Brooke made full use of their own wicket.
A steady start - 109 from the 25 overs - gave way to some some steady hitting and Brooke, with a mixture of fortunes including best use of the wet weather, finished on a satisfyling 248 for 6, including 62 runs from the last five overs.
Just for once this season, Cromer’s bowlers never really got the upper hand and so it was left to the batting to prove its worth.
Turner and Lithins put on 61 for the first wicket, and at this stage and right through til the 40th over Cromer were never far away in terms of run rate.
Lithins completed his half century, and there were first appearances of the season for Rich Graveling and Sam Dickens, who both played well only to fall in the chase of quick runs , and were well stumped .
Although up with the rate, Cromer had lost wickets and exposed the tail to what was always going to be a mountain, with exactly one hundred needed from the last ten overs.
Cameoes at the end from Battrick and Green were not enough, and Cromer came up short on the day by 48 runs.
Another top of the table clash this coming Saturday, this time at home, with lessons to be learned and hopefully a better result.
