The second weekend fixture saw EAPL outfit Vauxhall Mallards come to the Norton Warnes on Sunday, in the Biss Trophy.
Mallards brought a full strength side, including several players with County experience, and their captain Paul Bradshaw won the toss and chose to bat. Michael Warnes and Rayno Arendse continued the tight bowling from Saturday, and runs were hard to come by for the Mallards' top order. Harrison, Robinson and De Saram all made double figures but were soon dismissed, and after 20 overs of quality Cromer bowling the EAPL side were 64 for 4.
Amos and Moores followed suit in making a start but failing to move on, and the wicket-taking was spread around the bowlers. However, with the score 108 for 6 Bradshaw joined Goldsmith at the crease. Together they put on a 7th wicket partnership of 103 before Goldsmith was out for 71, caught Warnes bowled Elliott. Bradshaw added a valuable 39 before falling to Warnes. In the final over Elliott, who finished with figures of 3 for 36 from 8.1 overs, snared the final wicket to leave Mallards all out for 225.
In reply, Cromer made a quick start at over 4 runs per over for the first 10. Moores got the wickets of the two openers Arendse (15) and Charlwood (13), before Addison dismissed three and four, Elliott (22) and T. Davies (7). At the halfway stage Cromer were 87 for 6.
The game ended in the 36th over with Cromer finishing on 132 all out. Lithins ended 16 not out and Liam Davies added 13 runs from 5 balls. Addison, Moores, Harrison and Robinson all took two wickets.
In a game in which Cromer were always underdogs, Captain Tom Davies said how pleased he was to give the best team in Norfolk a run for their money. “Mallards go home knowing they had a game today, and that they had to work hard for the victory”, said Davies. Following a weekend with two very tough games Davies had nothing but praise for his team. "I hope that after Saturday's winning draw and Sunday's top effort that similar performances will follow for the rest of the season.”
