Cromer fielded first and 33 off the first ten overs didn’t suggest a great issue, especially as overseas star had already been dropped on just 8 and played a couple in the air that just evaded fielders.
From there on the openers put bat to ball and completed an opening stand of 233 from 30 overs.
Slowing down the bowling with the two Bens, Wright and Zelos, had little effect until skipper Van Greuning brought on himself and Grant Zelos who took two apiece, albeit for a combined 74 from 11 overs.
Regis returned to pick up a couple of wickets at the death, and Cromer enjoyed tea with the knowledge that only the rain was likely to save them as they faced a daunting total of 290.
That Cromer came close was due entirely to Kristian Regis who scored exactly 100 from Cromer’s reply of 190.
As ever on a Sunday, Van Greuning ensured that his young players got the chance to bat. Battrick, though, perished to the first ball of the innngs, then Wright, G Zelos and Furlong all had a start, but at 29 for 5 Cromer were looking at an early evening til Regis took over and peppered the boundary with seventeen 4’s and two 6’s, completing his ton with three overs to spare.
In the mean time Jack Van Greuning batted sensibly, Alex Craske showed glimpses of his promise yet again, and the experience in the form of skipper Van Greuning and Lithins closed the innings on 190 for 9.
