But things didn’t go as planned for the visitors, and Cromer openers Rayno Arendse and Tom Davies got Cromer off to a flyer. Some wayward, inconsistent bowling from Runcton was duly punished by Arendse and Davies, and after just 8 overs Cromer were 50 for no loss. The Cromer opening pair continued to blast quick runs until the partnership was broken in the 15th over, when Arendse was dismissed for 39 off the bowling of Hemeter.
Richard Charlwood joined the skipper in the middle and put on 29 together before Kgamadi got the wicket of the Cromer captain Davies, who was 5 short of his half century. At the halfway mark Cromer were 108 for 2 and looked likely to post a score well over 200.
Charlwood now with Michael Warnes again put on a valuable partnership of 43, before Charlwood was out for 25. Warnes departed 4 overs later with a brilliant 38 and the Cromer top four had moved Cromer into a strong position - 165 for 5 after the wicket of Warnes.
Cromer added 44 runs in the final 10 overs with handy contributions from Adrian Buck (12), Dean Elliott (17 not out) and Jez Wright (13),and from their 50 overs Cromer had scored 211 for 9.
With the ball Cubitt was the pick of the North Runcton bowlers with 4 for 39 from 9 overs.
The home side made a bright start with the ball as well, limiting Runcton to scoring opportunities, and Warnes bowled both openers in the first six overs. Kgamadi and Brown then showed a bit of resistance putting on 43 for the third wicket, before Dean Elliott dismissed Brown.
Elliott would get three more wickets: Kgamadi (33), Pipkin (18) and Hastings (13), and at the end of his 12 over spell he finished with excellent figures of 4 for 23.
North Runcton’s seventh wicket fell in the 38th over and Forder and Jefferson then batted out the final overs, finishing not out on 26 and 27 respectively, leaving Runcton clinging on at 163 for 7.
Warnes also finished with impressive figures of 3 for 34 from 11 overs.
A much better display from Cromer who performed well with bat and ball, and the result moved them away from the bottom end of the table.
Cromer will be hoping for another solid display this Saturday when Old Buckenham visit the Norton Warnes ground.
